Ann Arbor's Jardin de Ville

Welcome to Ann Arbor's Jardin de Ville (Garden of the City)!

Technically this garden does not belong to the City of Ann Arbor but instead it is the property of the University of Michigan. In 1907 the Botanical Gardens were created and are now over 100 years old! The Botanical Gardens are a great place for class field trips and even weddings, as Kristin and I found out when we arrived. Located just a little north of the University's North Campus, the gardens are a fun place to take a picnic lunch and then stroll through the gardens and take a hike along one of the trails. There are different kinds of flower gardens inside including an herb knot garden, which is modeled after a 16th century English Tudor garden. There are also plants that come from all over the world, including the Dichondra micrantha Convolvulaceae or the Asian Ponysfoot, which grows a fruit that very much resembles a lime. While walking through the gardens, Kristin and I kept debating how much certain gardens reminded us of Versailles and others reminded us of the Jardin de Ville in Grenoble. After the gardens, we took a walk along the trails and saw the pond that they have and got to watch some duck bathe in the waters. After sitting awhile on a bench in the shade of one of the willow trees we headed home. To read more about the Botanical Gardens click here!
