Hello All.
This week Ann Arbor was invaded with the annual crowd and commotion that is the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair. The Ann Arbor Art Fair is an opportunity for people to come from all over to have their artwork judged and sold. It was started in 1974 during the middle week of July and it lasts Wednesday through Saturday in Downtown Ann Arbor. The Art Fair has actually become a combination of at least four different fairs covering North University, South University, State Street, Liberty, and Main Streets. There is also a lot of tradition that goes with the Ann Arbor Art Fair... mostly regarding the weather. Without fail the weather will be sunny and in the mid-90s for a temperature all three days and will include at least one day of rain and most likely heavy thunderstorms. For most people in Ann Arbor, the Art Fair marks that summer will soon be drawing to a close. During the four days when Art Fair does invade downtown Ann Arbor, the townies take to the hills! People come from all over Southeastern Michigan to see the fair while those from Ann Arbor either stay away from downtown or they head out of town for vacation and won't be back until fall rolls around again. The Art Fair is truly an Ann Arbor experience though covering the center of town with white tents and lots and lots of people. Once the fair is over though, town is suddenly deserted again and the townies begin to appear on the streets again. Have a great summer, everyone!

The art fair was always fun to attend, even though I'm not really the artsy type.
I've heard it referred to in local papers as the Art Fairs, with an "s." Is that true?
