Today is the unofficial start to summer. The pools open, sporting events take place all over the country, and families go on their first picnics of the summer. The real reason for this federal holiday, though, is that we remember all those men and women who lost their lives in defense of this country. Our history is filled with these brave souls who believed in our country so much that they gave their lives for it. So, please, take a moment today to remember these men and women who served for our country and those who are still fighting for it all over the world. This federal holiday was started after the Civil War in order to remember the Union soldiers who died in defense of the Union. To read more about the history of Memorial Day click here.
